Four concerts to watch online for World Music Day

Although World Music Day is planned as usual on June 21, the coronavirus pandemic has wiped hundreds of music festivals and concerts off our summer calendar. A number of artists and musical institutions have delved into their archives to share some musical joy during these difficult times. Here is a selection of four concerts to catch from home. Radiohead - "Live at the Astoria" While drummer Philip Selway announced in February that the band was taking "a year away" from the recording studio, the veteran rockers have released a number of classic live concerts on their YouTube channel to keep fans entertained. Among them are their concert from May 27, 1994 at the now-defunct Astoria in London, where Thom Yorke and his bandmates performed classic hits such as "Creep," "Fake Plastic Trees" and "Just."

Pitbull got the party going all night in Mansfield

Puerto rican powerhouse Pitbull brought the house down on Sunday night, closing the weekend with a sold out show at the Xfinity Center in Mansfield as part of the Party After Dark Tour. Alongside rapper T-Pain, the duo lit the amphitheater on fire and kept everyone up and dancing all night long. The Pitbull experience starts outside the venue; fans of all ages and genders showed up in full on Mr. Worldwide attire, paired with bald caps and signature aviators. The music could be heard before walking through the gates, with party buses dropped off concert-goers and tailgaters jamming out to mid 2000s club bangers. Rapper T-Pain took the stage with a clean setup, only joined by a DJ and some bright lights, but this would be enough for him. T-Pain’s undeniable charisma and stage presence captivated the crowd, as he showed off his dancing skills. From club classics “Booty Wurk (One Cheek At A Time)” to “I’m N Luv (Wit A Stripper)”, T-Pain got the crowd fired up with his cheeky humor and impressive non-autotuned vocals. Despite the stripped down stage, the rapper certainly held off on his own, keeping the crowd entertained, laughing and dancing.

As he got the audience ready for Pitbull to arrive, the now packed venue was electric; from groups of young women dressed to the nines, to a hilarious stream of Mr. 305 lookalikes, everyone was ready for the party to erupt, and erupt it did. The lights came down to signal the singer’s arrival, as the stage lit up completely and he emerged from the back, escorted by a full live band and plenty of dancers. He kicked things off with a bang, going right into “Don’t Stop The Party” and “Hotel Room Service”, and the entire room was vibrating. Pitbull’s stage presence is dominant, in his classic black suit and aviators, yet he still felt warm and inviting; he would go from a sexy playboy to an inspirational speaker with ease, showing not only his gratitude to the fans, but his years of wisdom in the industry. The night went on as he brought out banger after banger, leaving fans with barely any time to take a breath. Centered on the Part After Dark concept, the stage shifted through different party cities and eras, but keeping the celebratory themes alive and vibrant. From earlier hits like “Culo” and “I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)” to his many collaborations with artist like Usher and Christina Aguilera, the party did not stop: the vibe was electrifying. Also in the mix were a few rock tracks, from Bon Jovi to Guns N’ Roses, which somehow blended in perfectly with the party atmosphere. Even the in between moments were filled with music, as the DJ would take over and blast more pop classics, from Bell Biv Devoe’s “Poison” to Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk”. T-Pain would return to the stage to perform his own collaboration with Pitbull, “Hey Baby (Drop It To The Floor)”, quickly becoming one of the highlights of the evening. There’s no questions about Pitbull’s consistent mass appeal over the years, bringing people from all walks of life together to disconnect, get freaky and celebrate. With sultry dancing, monster hits and lots of pyro, Mr. Worldwide undoubtedly knows how to keep the party going after dark.

Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp, born John Christopher Depp II on June 9, 1963, was destined for fame with his unique character and devastatingly good looks. As a child, he was a victim of domestic violence but he overcame his tragic past and eventually rose to fame with countless, memorable series and movie roles, including “21 Jump Street” (1987-1990) “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape” (1993), “Donnie Brasco” (1997), “The Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, “Finding Neverland” (2004), and many more. He was nominated for numerous awards for his outstanding performances and honored with a life-size statue in Serbia. His career took a nosedive in 2016 when his wife at the time, Amber Heard, filed for divorce and accused him of physical abuse. His turbulent relationship with Heard was the source of public interest and their televised 2022 defamation trial drew over 500 million viewers. Public support for Depp was overwhelming and, since winning the case, he has gotten his life (and career) back on track. Today, we celebrate the special day of this deserving star with you. Background John Christopher Depp II, famously known as Johnny Depp, was born in Owensboro, Kentucky, in the United States and was raised in Florida. His parents, John Christopher Depp and Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Sue Wells divorced when he was 15 years old. His father was a civil engineer and his mother was a waitress. He has three siblings, Danny, Christi Dembrowski, and Deborah — Depp is the youngest of the four. He revealed that his mother had abusive tendencies, and at the age of 11, Depp started doing various kinds of drugs as a way to escape from his family problems. His road to fame started in 1979 when he joined a band called the Kids and in 1983, he moved to Los Angeles with the band, hoping to make it big. A year later, in 1984, he was introduced by his then-wife, Lori Allison, to Nicolas Cage, who introduced him to a Hollywood agent. His big break came after filming “Edward Scissorhands,” directed by Tim Burton. He went on to feature in many other movies such as “Ed Wood” in 1994, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” in 2005, and “Alice in Wonderland” in 2010, all directed by Tim Burton. In 2003, he starred in the movie “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl,” as the pirate, Captain Jack Sparrow, and climbed the ladder of success. He won five MTV Movie Awards and a Screen Actor Guild Award in 2003 for his outstanding performance in the movie. In terms of his personal life, Depp has two children, Lily-Rose Depp and Jack Depp. He has always been a ladies’ man, with six engagements and two official marriages, first to Lori Allison and later to Amber Heard in 2015. These marriages, unfortunately, both ended in divorce. His relationship with Heard, in particular, was a turbulent one and, in May 2016, she filed for divorce, citing physical abuse. A settlement was reached and the divorce was finalized in 2017. However, the saga continued and in 2022, the highly publicized defamation trial between Depp and Heard took place. Depp won the case and his ex-wife was ordered to pay $1 million to Depp. The majority of public support was in Depp’s favor but since winning the trial, his career began to flourish once again. Depp played the role of King Louis XV in the film “Jeanne Du Barry,” which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2023.

Luke Grimes: 5 Things to Know About the Fifty Shades of Grey Star Playing Christian's Brother Elliot

  1. He's the Son of a Preacher Man: Yes, indeed, Luke grew up in Dayton, Ohio, where his father still works as a Pentecostal pastor. He told Interview magazine, however, he's "not really a fan of organized religion." Still, mom and dad supported their handsome son, even taking out a mortgage on their home to send him to acting school in New York City. The Lord works in mysterious ways!

  2. But He's Totally Down to Get Dirty Onscreen: And apparently, he's a pro. In 2010, he played Ellen Barkin's significantly younger lover in S--t Year. Not unlike the character he's playing in Fifty Shades of Grey, Luke was confident when it came to scenes in the bedroom. "I'm not nervous," he claimed, prior to the start of filming. "I probably will be. That's how I work. If there are any nerves, it won't happen until right before."

  3. He Auditioned for Robert Pattinson's Role in Twilight: And we all know Edward Cullen and Bella Swan didn't do the deed until their wedding night! (Remember all the feathers?) Well, in a 2010 interview with Access Hollywood, Luke revealed he "did [audition] for a few different characters actually," including "for Robert Pattinson's role…" He [clearly] didn't get the part, saying it was just "not the right fit."

  4. He Didn't Get to Sparkle, But He Did Get to Play a Vampire: Not just any vampire, either—a True Blood one! No spoilers, but let's just say Luke's undead alter ego James was a gentleman in the bedroom, paid a hefty price for it and ultimately reaped the rewards. Chivalrous, right? Kinda like a Cullen.

  5. And You Will Love His Lindsay Lohan Story: It even involves nudity! In 2009, Luke told Blackbook, "When I'm a little intoxicated, I think it's really fun to moon starlets." Don't we all? But "when I did it to Lindsay Lohan," he said, "I was thrown out of the club." It happens! Laters, babe! Variety was first to report the news of Luke's casting.
